The Department of Parks and Recreation announces that Family Movie Night sponsored by Soccer with Aldwin will be outdoors at the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center on Monday, August 22, 2011. There will be a rain date on Tuesday, August 23, 2011.

Come to the Civic Center at 7pm, and have a picnic while the children play and have fun jumping in Aldwin’s bounce houses and playing fun games of soccer.  At approximately 8:00 pm the movie Toy Story 3 will be shown on a large 9’ x 12’ screen.  Come early, bring a picnic dinner (no barbecues please), a blanket, Frisbee, wiffle ball and bat, and enjoy a movie under the stars.

The Department of Parks and Recreation announces there will be a Roller Skating Party at the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center on Wednesday, December 29^th.  The session will be offered for children in kindergarten through 6^th grade from 1:30 pm until 3:30 pm.  The cost to skate is $5.00 and includes the skate rental if needed (your own roller blades or skates may be worn).  A parent or guardian must accompany children during the session.

Sherry Kline, who runs the very popular roller skating program at the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center, will also run the program here at the Western Greenwich Civic Center.  She will direct a fun filled day of games, and contests, and skating for everyone.

The Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center is registering children 6 to 9 years old for basketball clinics during the School Holiday recess Monday December 27 – 31, 2010.

Boys and girls 6 and 7 years old will meet from 9 am to 10:30 am.  Children 8 and 9 years old will have sessions from 10:30 to 12 noon.

The program will be under the direction of John Czarnecki who has coached basketball at GHS, the Greenwich Flames, and the Boys and Girls Travel Teams.  He currently is working with many HS and travel players in the area to improve their basketball skills.

So come to the Civic Center for some basketball fun.  Space is limited so sign up early.  The cost for the 5 day program is $100.00.

The Department of Parks and Recreation announces that there is still space available in guitar lessons that will be offered at the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center in Glenville.  The program will be held for eight weeks beginning Monday January 25 – March 22.  The program will have classes for children 8 years old and up to adults on Mondays.  The class schedule is:  8 to 14 year olds 4 to 5 pm, or 5 to 6 pm, 8 to 14 year old returning students 6:15 to 7:15 pm and adults 15 and up 7:30 to 8:30 pm.

So if you want to rock like Jimi Hendrix and Green Day now’s your chance to get started.  Learn chords, scales, theory, and best of all learn to play your favorite songs!!!  One-hour classes will focus on providing a high level of instruction in a fun, cooperative atmosphere.

Guitars will be provided each class if needed.  Rentals are available.

Tennis for Tots, offered by the Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation, will begin indoors at the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center on Mondays starting January 25^th for six weeks.

The program for children 3 and 4 years old will run from 2:45 pm to 3:15 pm, or 3:15 pm to 3:45 pm.  The 5, 6 and 7 year old program will be from 3:45 pm to 4:30 pm, or 4:30 pm to 5:15 pm, 6, 7, and 8 year olds class will be from 5:15 pm to 6 pm.  The cost is $75.00 for the 3 & 4 yr olds, and $90.00 for the 5 – 8 yr old programs.

Pat Cianciulli who has been the director of the Town’s Tennis Program for two years will teach the program.  He also teaches at various private clubs in Greenwich, and has worked at the US Open.  He has taken the latest workshops with the USPTR.

The course will be held in the Bendheim Western Civic Center Gym.  Tennis rackets will be provided.  Registration will begin by mail only Monday January 4 – 8.  In person registration at the Civic Center begins on Monday January 11.

The entertainment will begin at 7:00 pm with a children’s concert featuring Graham Clarke. After the concert at approximately 8:00 pm we will show the movie Kung Fu Panda on a large 9′ x 12′ screen. Come early, bring a picnic dinner (no barbecues allowed), a blanket, frisbee, wiffleball and bat, and enjoy a movie under the stars.
