FLYING CAR TO BE HIGHLIGHT OF
THE GREENWICH CONCOURS d’ELEGANCE
FEATURING GREAT CLASSIC CARS, YACHTS, AND MOTORCYCLES

The incredible high-tech Terrafugia “flying car”, shown on recent TV newscasts, will be one of the highlights of the 2009 Greenwich Concours d’Elegance, listed as one of the 1000 Places To See Before You Die in the North American edition of the best-selling book.

Greenwich is unique, in that it is actually two concours, back-to-back. Saturday’s Concours Americana is exclusively for American makes, while Sunday’s Concours International is exclusively for imported marques. On both days there will be a boutique display of classic yachts, including America II, one of the 12-Meter America’s Cup contenders. The cars exhibited include many of the pre-WWI brass-era, the grand classics of the late 1920s and ’30s, and such storied marques as Rolls-Royce, Marmon, Pierce Arrow, Lagonda, Cord, Auburn, Packard, Alfa Romeo, and Maserati; and post-WWII cars with big fins, and outsized engines. There will be sports and competition cars exhibited each day, including two historic Indy 500 race cars, with a special circle of “Contemporary Supercars.” Classic motorcycles will also be on display.

To commemorate Morgan’s Centenary there will be a special ring of some two-dozen Morgans, including a number of pre-WWII three-wheeled models. And, this being Mini’s 50th Anniversary, there will be complimentary birthday cake for everyone visiting the Mini display. There are galleries of automotive art, a book alley, demonstrations, as well as displays of the very latest new cars such as Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, Lexus, Jaguar, Volvo, Mini, Land Rover, Smart, Tesla, Bentley, Ferrari, Maserati, Aston Martin, and Bugatti. There will even be some Soap Box race cars.

In addition, the Greenwich Concours will also be the site of a major auction by Bonhams of significant collectors’ cars and automobilia from the collections of several prominent collectors. Cars include a Packard Darrin convertible once owned by Clark Gable, and the Rolls Royce Phantom I Ascot Tourer that Robert Redford drove in “The Great Gatsby.”
