Registration for the skatepark Ramp Camps will begin March 1, 2010.  The Ramp Camp is for skateboarders between the ages of 8 and 14.

During the camp time the skaters will learn new tricks, play games, and skate on this unique park.  The program runs weekly Monday – Thursday 9 to 12 noon with a rain date on Friday.  The skatepark has an experienced, fully trained staff that is friendly and helpful and can help your child learn how to skate, or improve his/her skills.

Weekly sessions are the weeks of: June 28 – July 1, July 5 – 8, July 12 – 15, August 9 – 12, August 16 – 19, and August 23 – 26.

There are also Pee Wee clinics for skateboarders 6 to 8 years of age that run for one-hour 6:30 to 7:30 pm Monday – Thursday with a rain date on Friday.  These weekly clinics will meet the weeks of July 19 – 22, July 26 – 29, and August 2 – 5.

The Department of Parks and Recreation announces that there is still space available in guitar lessons that will be offered at the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center in Glenville.  The program will be held for eight weeks beginning Monday January 25 – March 22.  The program will have classes for children 8 years old and up to adults on Mondays.  The class schedule is:  8 to 14 year olds 4 to 5 pm, or 5 to 6 pm, 8 to 14 year old returning students 6:15 to 7:15 pm and adults 15 and up 7:30 to 8:30 pm.

So if you want to rock like Jimi Hendrix and Green Day now’s your chance to get started.  Learn chords, scales, theory, and best of all learn to play your favorite songs!!!  One-hour classes will focus on providing a high level of instruction in a fun, cooperative atmosphere.

Guitars will be provided each class if needed.  Rentals are available.

A Roller Skating Party will be held by the Department of Parks and Recreation at the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center on Tuesday December 29th.  The session will be offered for children in kindergarten through 6th grade from 1:30 pm until 3:30 pm.  The cost to skate is $5.00 and includes the skate rental if needed (your own roller blades or skates may be worn).  A parent or guardian must accompany children during the session.

John Yeager, who runs the very popular roller skating program at the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center, will also run the program here at the Western Greenwich Civic Center.  He will direct a fun filled day of games, and contests for everyone.

The Department of Parks and Recreation announces that youth basketball clinics will begin at the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center on Thursdays starting January 21 for six weeks.

The program for children in Kindergarten and first grades will run from 3:45 pm to 4:30 pm.  Children in second and third grades will meet from 4:30 pm to 5:15 pm, and fourth and fifth graders meet from 5:15 to 6 pm.  The fourth and fifth grade program is great training opportunity for players that are playing on travel, and house basketball teams.  The cost for the program is $100.00

Coach John Czarnecki will teach this junior basketball class.  Coach Czarnecki is certified by the State of Connecticut, and has coached for over 25 years.  He has coached for the Greenwich Basketball Association, Greenwich Flame travel team, Greenwich Boys and Girls Club, and the freshman, JV, and Varsity Basketball teams at GHS.

The course will be held in the Bendheim Western Civic Center Gym.  Registration will begin by mail only Monday January 4 – Friday January 8.  In person registration at the Civic Center begins on Saturday January 9.

A  new program offered by the Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation will take place during the school winter break called Holiday fun week.  Come and join John Czarnecki who will direct this fun program for children 6 to 10 years of age.  The program will run 9 am to 12 noon Monday, December 28 – Thursday December 31.

The program will consist of four mornings of indoor games of basketball, soccer, kickball, dodge ball, nerf baseball, and touch football.  In addition to playing each of these games Coach Czar will also teach and coach the children so that they learn more than just the basics of the sport.

John Czarnecki has coached basketball, lacrosse, and golf at Greenwich High School, as well as youth soccer for the Town of Greenwich.  He coached both Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth League baseball.  Your child will have fun playing games with Coach Czarnecki’s positive playful approach.
