of Dawson’s archival quality black & white and color prints.

About the artist:
Joel Dawson has divided his time to return to his roots as an artist after more than two decades as a creative director to some of the best known names in the beauty industry.

About the sculptures:
Joel meticulously balances rocks one atop of another to create natural sculptures along the shoreline at
Greenwich Point — no glue, no rods, no pebbles… just balance.

About the photographs:
Wind and waves take away the transient shoreline gallery; the photographs help the images live on. Joel’s work has been called “unique in both subject and texture, capturing the majestic quality of man in harmony with nature.”

Prints: Available at the gallery or by contacting Marcos Torno, owner of Images, at 203-637-4193.

The Artist’s Story

The natural landscape of Greenwich Point is inspiring to many of its visitors. But every once in a while, the rocky scape along the shoreline is transformed into a sculpture garden of meticulously balanced rocks. Where do these mysterious constructions come from? They are the inspired work of Old Greenwich resident and designer Joel Dawson, who, after more than two decades as a creative director to some of the best known names in the beauty industry, has return to his roots as an artist.

Sculpting with stones found at Greenwich Point began as a fun, creative way for Dawson to spend time with his two children when they were very young. In the past couple of years, Dawson has taken stone sculpting to another level. In the early morning before sunrise or in the late afternoon when the light is at its best, he heads to the beach. Guided by the sun, the weather, the wind, and the tides, and inspired by the rock shapes, Dawson begins to construct – balancing one rock atop another. “There’s no glue, no rods, no pebbles… just balance,” Dawson explains. “It is about what you find and what you want to make of it. The magic is when you let the rock go, and it just stays…” he says on his Web site, www.greenwichpointrocks.com.

Cos Cob
Hours: Mon-Sun 9:00am-6:30pm

Off the beaten path in Cos Cob off River Road and behind the old Fjord Fisheries Market is Sandy’s Farm Stand. Sandy offers only the freshest Connecticut grown produce as well as some good fresh picks from other areas. Sandy brings fresh fruits and vegetables from the Enfield, Hartford area to a convenient Greenwich farm stand. We are lucky that she has been opening her stand for the past 14 Summers. She is open everyday, rain or shine from 9:00am to 6:30pm. Be sure to stop by and pay her a visit. You will feel great knowing you are supporting local farms and at the same time eating healthy. Sandy is currently selling tomatoes, squash, green onions, cucumbers, corn, blueberries, peaches, nectarines and more. Yesterday, we bought fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and green onions. Here is a quick and easy summer salad recipe we tested from allrecipes.com – It was DELICIOUS paired with a chilled Sauvignon Blanc. Enjoy!
