About the Independence Day Association
The Independence Day Association was created to reinforce the patriotic meaning of the Fourth of July, promoting the historical significance of the holiday in the minds of the children of Greenwich. The Daughters of the American Revolution have been joined in this effort by the Sons of the American Revolution, the Children of the American Revolution, the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich, children attending public and independent schools, and local Boy Scout and Girl Scout and Explorer Troops. Each year, they gather on the steps of Town Hall at 9am on July 4th to raise the first American flag, parade the flags of the original thirteen colonies, read passages from the Declaration of Independence, honor the Greenwich citizens who fought and died in the Revolutionary War, and present Good Citizen Awards to deserving students.

The other two July 4th town events are the traditional fireworks at Binney Park and Greenwich Point on Saturday, July 2nd.

If you miss the fireworks in Greenwich there is a nice display in Fairfield:

The July 4th Fireworks are always held on the 4th of July in Fairfield with a rain date of July 5th. Fireworks explode just after dark, usually around 9:15 PM, from a barge off of Long Island Sound so the show can be seen easily from either Penfield or Jennings Beaches.

The warm-up bands for the big show are:
The Atwood Express Oldies Band playing at Jennings Beach from 5:00 – 7:00 PM and
The Shamrogues playing at Penfield Beach from 7:00 – 9:00 PM.

Beach Parking Permits are not required and parking is free after 6:00 PM at both the Penfield and Jennings parking lots but they do fill up early. Jennings has more ample parking.

In cases of Inclement Weather, call 203-256-3144.
