Signature dishes and wines from more than 60 of the finest restaurants, catering companies and wine distributors in Fairfield and Westchester counties will be served at Greenwich Hospital’s 27th annual Great Chefs fundraiser. This year’s event honors award-winning chef Alessandro Stratta. Currently preparing to open a restaurant in New York City, Stratta most recently showcased his talents at Wynn Las Vegas as executive chef of two namesake restaurants: ALEX, featuring modern French cuisine; and Stratta, highlighting Italian-American fare. He’s a hometown star, having grown up in Greenwich and graduated from what was then St. Mary’s High School.

Co-chairing the event this year are Carolyn Crabtree and Shelly Tretter Lynch of Greenwich. Your participation helps keep communities in Connecticut and New York healthy through a wide array of wellness, educational and support programs offered by Community Health at Greenwich Hospital.

The Persimmon Ball, YWCA Greenwich’s largest fund raiser, is a black-tie dinner dance that annually attracts 500 attendees. It features world-class items offered in both silent and live auctions.

Proceeds support free services to victims of domestic violence…scholarships for preschool, afterschool, summer camps, and aquatic programs…free women’s leadership seminars…free racial justice activities…subsidies for YWCA programs not covered by dues and fees.

Antiquarius 2011 Holiday House Tour

The 2011 lineup features five fabulous homes ranging from the shore to the back country. The handbook for high style will run the gamut from contemporary chic to classic elegance and highlight the work of emerging new talent as well as highly recognized names in the design world. If you attend only one house tour this year, Antiquarius should be it! Prepare to be awed and inspired.

New this year: Grab & Go Box Lunches

In addition to our Country Club buffet lunch, Grab & Go box lunches will be available for pickup at the Boutique beginning at 8:00 am on Wednesday, December 7. Advance reservations are required for both box and buffet lunches.

Premier Parking Passes may be purchased. These special passes will allow the holders to drive directly to and park at tour home locations instead of taking the shuttle bus. Premier Parking Passes will not be interchangeable, and holders must provide a license plate number at the time of purchase. Premier Passes are limited in number and may be ordered only by calling 203-869-6899, Ext. 14.

Get ready to curl up with some great books as the weather grows colder! The Friends of the Byram Shubert Library, a branch of Greenwich Library, will be holding its popular Book & Media Sale inside St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, next to 55 William Street West, on November 4-6, 2011.

This sale includes a guesstimated 12,000 books, CDs, DVDs, videos, audiobooks, and artwork, including loads of brand new items, as well as many antiques. You will find a wide selection of goodies, including fiction, thirty-something categories of nonfiction, and TONS of incredible children’s books.

For first picks, come to a special preview sale on Friday, November 4 from 5:30-8:30 pm. For $15, you can attend the preview and get the best selection – it’s well worth the entrance fee! On Saturday, November 5 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm the sale is open to all. On Sunday, November 6 from 12:00 to 4:00 pm will be the bargain hunter’s delight “bag and box” sale ($3/bag or $5/box).
