<div id="_mcePaste">Greenwich is approximately 20 miles from two nuclear reactors at Buchanan, NY on the Hudson River at Indian Point. This facility has been on-line for more than 35 years and the re-licensing process for another 20 years is underway. Radiation fallout have been detected in Japan at distances greater than 20 miles from the nuclear reactors at Fukushima Daiichi that were heavily damaged following the severe earthquake and tsunami that occurred in March. A similar nuclear reactor accident at Indian Point could directly affect the residents of Greenwich.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">The public is invited to hear a panel of experts with opposing views address these questions:</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">1. Can nuclear reactor failures similar to the ones in Japan at Fukushima Daiichi happen here?</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">2.  Is the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) doing its job to protect the public?</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">3.  Is Greenwich at risk if the aging reactors at Indian Point are re-licensed?</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">The panelists are:</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Dr. Edwin Lyman, Union of Concerned Scientists, an expert on nuclear plant design and radiation effects.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Phillip Musegaas, Hudson River Program Director and Indian Point Policy Analyst for Riverkeeper-New York’s Clean Water Advocate.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">James  F.X. Steets, Director of</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Communications, Entergy Nuclear -the owner and operator of Indian Point and several other U.S. power plants.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Questions from the audience will follow their presentations. Dr. Stephen A. Myers, a physicist with a long history of involvement in nuclear issues, will moderate. For more information contact Naomi Schiff Myers at 203-637-3892.</div>

117 Greenwich Avenue<br />
Greenwich, Connecticut<br />
Wednesday, October 12, 2011<br />
6:00 to 8:00 pm</p>
<p>Have you ever wondered what those unidentifiable silver implements in you great-grandmother&#8217;s silver service were used for? You are cordially invited to an in-store program at Betteridge that will focus on silver and jewelry designed and crafted during the Gilded Age. Explore the use, trends and psychology behind the elaborate silver services that graced many a groaning table, and take a closer look at the remarkably intricate jewelry that decorated many an ample Victorian bosom.</p>
<p>Owner and fourth-generation silver maven Terry Betteridge and jewelry czar Simon Teakle will offer lively presentations on their fields of expertise that will have you brushing up on your table manners and dressing for supper! Refreshments will be served.</p>
<p>Sponsored by the Greenwich Historical Society. Admission is free but reservations are required due to limited space.
To reserve, please call 203-869-6899, Ext. 10.</p>
