The Sound Beach Community Band will be performing on the Snowmobile at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park on Sunday, August 29, 2010, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm.

The Sound Beach Community Band consists of 40 local musicians that play a number of different popular songs, marches, and show tunes.

Bring a picnic dinner and a blanket, and join us for a wonderful night of music under the stars.

The rain date for this concert is on Monday August 30, 2010.

Founded in 1976, the Fairfield Counts Orchestra has, over the years, attracted top caliber musicians whose intent is to recreate the unique big band sounds. It is now considered one of the premier big bands on the East Coast.  The band has seventeen musicians, a musical director and a superb female vocalist.

Open to all Greenwich Point visitors. Permits required for park entry. Bring a chair or blanket. If it rains or thunderstorms are predicted, concerts will be postponed or cancelled.

A Jazz on the Sound Concert will be on Sunday August 15, 2010.  The concert will feature a Dixieland Jazz band which will play on the 4:00 PM Island Beach ferry, continue on Island Beach, and play again on the return trip 5:30 PM ferry.  The concert rain date is the following Sunday.  For postponement information call the Parks and Recreation weather hotline at  203-618-7650.

Bring a picnic dinner and join us for some Dixieland Jazz at Island Beach.  The final concert of the season will be on Sunday September 12, 2010 at the Special time of 3 pm to 5 pm.

Souled Out is a musical ensemble that specializes in the great Motown and Soul sounds. Featuring a three piece vocal section, the group weaves its way through the Motown and 70’s eras with authentic choreographed dance routines and outstanding musicianship.  Not only is Souled Out a sensational listening and dancing experience, it is an awesome visual one as well.

In the 1960’s, Motown Records brought about a new wave of Soul music, and many groups emerged from Detroit, U.S.A, to become some of the greatest ever recorded.  Making history with their music and their longevity, artists such as the Four Tops, Stevie Wonder and the Temptations soon were established as some of the top Soul artist of that era. The popularity of Detroit’s Motown eventually led the way to Philadelphia and a new twist on the classic sound.  The sounds of Philadelphia popularized such groups as the spinners, the O’Jays and Harold Melvin and the Blue notes.

Inspired by the same definitive musical events, Souled Out brings the adored music of these classic groups to the stage.  With impeccable musicality and spirit, the soul Legends shine through with this stylish and fun show that delivers each performance just like the real thing.  With collective talent, showmanship, energy, and a whole lot of style, this is one group that brings the audience back to the glory days of soul.

Cynthia Sayer

Internationally renowned jazz banjoist and vocalist, Cynthia Sayer, will be performing with her band at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park Wednesday, August 11, 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm, the rain date is Thursday, August 12.

Cynthia Sayer’s musical approach has a contemporary hip appeal, yet her music is based on 1920s and 1930s jazz.  Cynthia brings her audience on a delightful journey through musical Americana.  Opening in the ragtime era, she swings through the wild new “jass” sound, experience vaudeville banjo stars, romp through Tin Pan Alley, vamp the classics, enjoy old favorites and wind up in a virtuoso flurry of banjo hits.

Cynthia’s credits include playing and recording with Woody Allen, Dick Hyman, Milt Hilton and many others.  She has been featured in festivals throughout Europe, the Far East and the USA.  She has played at the White House for President Reagan, at Carnegie Hall, and with the NY Philharmonic.

Gunsmoke, the award winning country band, will be in concert on Wednesday, July 28, from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park.  The rain date is the next day Thursday July 29.

Gunsmoke hails from Fairfield County and was formed in 1982.  The New York Metro Country Music Association has named the band Band of the Year six years in a row.  Gunsmoke plays new country hits from the likes of Garth Brooks, George Strait and Alan Jackson.  They also draw from the many styles they were raised on like Bob Wills swing, son of the pioneer trail songs Ray Price shuffles, Buck Owens twang, and Eddie Arnold classics to provide the audience with a diversified night of music.  Gunsmoke is the band that entertained for President Bush when he visited  Greenwich.
