“Help!” is the topic of the Greenwich Historical Society’s Story Barn oral history performance, where a roster of raconteurs will proffer tales that illustrate the nature of giving and getting help.

The current exhibition at the Historical Society, Everyday Heroes: Greenwich First Responders, explores what it’s like to come to the aid of others in times of extreme crisis, but there isn’t one of us that hasn’t needed a bit of help at some time in our lives. When help arrives, it may be given subtly or in a gaudy package; it can come from someone near and dear or from quarters least expected. Sometimes we don’t even know we need help!

$15 for members; nonmembers $20. Light refreshments included.

Fresh off its successful February production of “A Heart Day’s Night,” Two Turkeys Productions is getting set for its next staged reading event: “March Madness: A Night of Crazy Comedies.”

Slated for the evenings of Friday March 11 and Saturday March 12, at 8pm, at Diamond Hill United Methodist Church is Cos Cob. The troupe will present a lineup that includes an array of, as they call it, “madly funny” one-acts.

“Our audiences had a great time at the February show, and we had a great time performing for them,” said Don Adams, a co-founder of Two Turkeys, “so we’re duplicating that successful format with a very funny quartet of one-acts.”

Adams and co-founder Lori Feldman will be joined on stage by “guest turkeys,” fellow local actors Ellen Krinick and Bob Waters of Stamford and Janice Pasqua of Easton. Frank Petrilli of Stamford directs the production.

Tickets (perhaps the county’s biggest theater bargain at only $5 each) can be reserved in advance by calling the box office at 203.829.4767, or can be purchased at the door. Refreshments will be served after the show, and audience members are invited to chat with the cast.

Greenwich Historical Society
Vanderbilt Education Barn
39 Strickland Road
Cos Cob
November 18, 2010
7pm

Happily Ever After? Henny Youngman once said, “The secret of a happy marriage remains a secret.” A talented group of raconteurs will regale you with their own not-so-secret musings on weddings, marriage and commitment at the Greenwich Historical Society’s upcoming Story Barn on Thursday, November 18. The lineup will include Reverend Jim Lemler of Christ Church, cartoonist and columnist Jerry Dumas, board member Roxanne Vanderbilt, hotel exec Scott Williams, travel guru Kathleen Snodden, Greenwich realtor Chris Finlay, event and wedding planner Deanna Marano, and local storyteller David Luhman.

Emceed by Historical Society board member and comedienne Bonnie Levison, Story Barn is a contemporary approach to oral tradition inspired by Themoth.org, a New York organization dedicated to “celebrating the ability of stories to honor the diversity and commonality of human experience.” At this program, held in conjunction with the Historical Society’s current exhibition From This Day Forward: Looking Back at Greenwich Weddings, each storyteller will relate his or her own no-holds-barred, five-minute tale about the most “cherished” institution. Doors open at 7:00 pm and show starts at 7:30. Light refreshments are included in the ticket price of $15 for nonmembers and $10 for members.

For tickets visit www.greenwichhistory.org or call 203-869-6899, Ext. 18.
