This beautiful garden at Strickland Brook Park, next to Cos Cob Library was designed and planted by the Westchester Fairfield Horicultural Society.  Today, the society held a plant sale of outstanding quality. Kate Liba, the president, informed me that the proceeds of the sale would go toward maintaining and improving the garden.  I was unaware that the society created this lovely retreat in the heart of Cos Cob but am grateful that they did.  The society also sponsors monthly meetings at various locations in the region.  Some of the meetings feature speakers with particular areas of expertise; others take place at outstanding private gardens or other properties of horticulture interest. Join West Fair Hort and the Garden Education Center in the second annual Dazzling Dahlias show. Members of the community are welcome to participate. Dahlia Society officials will judge the exhibits of cut flowers. In addition, West Fair Hort members are eligible to compete for the John Troy trophy. Arrangements of dahlias will also be displayed.

For history buffs; if you are interested in learning more about Cos Cob history, The Greenwich Library Oral History Project interviewed a local resident, Gertrude Riska, about her childhood memories of growing up in Cos Cob in the 1920s and 30s. The book is available for purchase through the Oral History website, http://www.glohistory.org. This very informative  book can also be checked out at the Greenwich Library.

Discover fall flowers from witch hazel to a meadow filled with goldenrod and aster.  Discuss methods for successfully creating your own unfinished symphony at home while walking in this gorgeous setting.

Led by Melissa Piechucki & Edward Henry. Melissa is a professional horticulturist, who received her training at the New York Botanical Garden and Wave Hill. She is involved in developing the GEC’s forthcoming educational program. Edward is a natural history illustrator and educator, currently doing work for the National Wildlife Refuge, UCONN and the CT DEP. They are both dedicated to sharing the wonder they observe in the natural world. They live in Cos Cob.
