New York Times best-selling author Sally Bedell Smith to speak at Greenwich Library on January 12 at 7 p.m. in the Cole Auditorium, to discuss her newest biography, Elizabeth the Queen.

Jennifer Homans, author of “Apollo’s Angels, A History of Ballet”, named one of the “10 Best Books” in 2010 by the New York Times Book Review, will speak at Greenwich Library on Thursday, January 19 at 7 pm in the Meeting Room as part of the AuthorsLive@GreenwichLibrary series. Diane’s Books will provide books for sale and signing.

Homans, an historian and dance critic for the New Republic, as well as a former professional ballerina, will discuss her critically acclaimed book, Apollo’s Angels, A History of Ballet. Over the course of a decade, Homans researched and wrote this richly drawn story of the evolution of ballet from its origins to the present. Drawing on extensive archival research and interviews conducted in Paris, Copenhagen, London, New York, St. Petersburg and Moscow, Apollo’s Angels shows that ballet was not only artistic, but political: bound up with the fate of kings, courts and states.

CHILDRENS BOOK AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR ROSEMARY WELLS TO VISIT DIANE’S BOOKS of Greenwich

On Saturday June 4th from 2 to 4pm, author/illustrator, Rosemary Wells will be at Diane’s Books of Greenwich. Rosemary Wells will be at the store to sign copies of her numerous books, meet with customers, and talk about books and reading. She will also be raffling off some of her original book artwork and is offering a visit to the school that brings the most teachers and students to the store that day.

She has won numerous awards, and has given readers such unforgettable characters as Max and Ruby, Noisy Nora, and Yoko. She has also given Mother Goose new life in two definitive editions, and created an unforgettable world for grown-ups and kids alike in Voyage to the Bunny Planet.

For the older child Rosemary has ventured into chapter books with titles like the historical novel Red Moon at Sharpsburg and On the Blue Comet as well as Lincoln and His Boys.

Rosemary was born in New York City and raised on the New Jersey shore. She grew up in a home that was always filled with books, dogs, and classical music.

At two years old Rosemary began to draw. When she was not outdoors, she was always drawing. At nineteen, she attended Boston Museum School. Rosemary worked seven years in publishing before her first book was published in 1968, an illustrated edition of Gilbert and Sullivan’s A Song to Sing, O! Rosemary Wells’ career as an author and illustrator spans more than 40 years and 120 books.

Speaking about her youth, Rosemary recalls, “New Jersey was farm country and I spent much of my time outdoors, running around the woods behind our house and playing baseball with the neighbor’s kids. I spent a lot of time with animals, horses, and dogs. My grandmother took me on special trips to the theater and museums in New York City. I was born during a golden age of childhood in our country’s history. And, I was lucky because my parents were happy and they supported all that I wanted to do. They had both been in the theater and understood the arts from the inside. We had a houseful of wonderful books. Reading stories aloud was as much a part of my childhood as the air I breathed.”
