The Greenwich Choral Society, celebrating over 80 years of excellence in choral music, is holding open auditions on Tuesday, September 1 from 6 to 8pm, as well as Saturday, September 12 from 10am to 12noon. Singers are needed for all voice parts, particularly tenors. The Greenwich Choral Society, a 120-voice experienced volunteer chorus, sings a broad repertoire of classical music. Featured works to be performed during 2009-2010 will include Stephen Paulus’s So Hallowed is the Time (December 5, 6), Music from a French Cathedral with works by Fauré, Vierne and others (March 7), and Verdi’s Requiem (May 23).

The Chorus rehearses Tuesday nights in the First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich. A 10-minute private audition consists of vocalizing to demonstrate range and quality of production, followed by sight-singing; NO prepared piece is required. DIY network’s highest rated show arrives in our area and is scouting for potential participants.

The production is currently seeking homeowners from Greenwich, Conneticut and surrounding towns who are planning home renovations this fall and are looking to save big bucks.

Every week on 10 Grand in Your Hand DIY Network shows real homeowners how to cut up to $10,000 from their renovation and remodeling projects. In this original series, DIY Network comes into a renovation or remodeling project at the beginning, offering homeowners smart advice on new materials and technologies, plus essential how-to info on doing some of the basic work themselves. Homeowners are amazed how much they can shave off their total budget, leaving serious cash available to spend on another project, a vacation or a new toy.

The host of the show is John DeSilvia, a licensed contractor with over thirty years in the business and star of another DIY hit, Under Construction.  With John’s know-how and the magic of television production, there is a ton of money to be saved and fun to be had for those lucky few selected for the show.

The final casting call for Greenwich Has Got Talent: Variety Show 2009 hosted by the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce will be on Thursday, September 3, 7 – 10 p.m. in the Greenwich Library’s Cole Auditorium. If you are auditioning for a musical, please bring a CD. Performances will be held on Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m.; the location will be announced in early September after the Greenwich Schools have finalized their fall calendars. Pre-purchased tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and younger. An additional $5 is charged per ticket at the door.

Greenwich Chamber Members and their friends are encouraged to become involved in this fun event either as a performer or as a volunteer through one of several committees: program book patron sales, ticket sales, program book advertising, program book printing, set building, stage managers, ushers, concessions, advertising, make-up and costumes, or cast party.
