This education program is designed especially for families and children to foster appreciation and understanding of art related to current Museum exhibitions and based on the Learning to Look® curriculum developed by Sue Ann Massey Williamson and Diane W. Darst, Ph.D.

Presented to complement the exhibition Picasso’s Vollard Suite: The Sculptor’s Studio, an exhibition of approximately 40 etchings created by Picasso from 1930-1937, this program begins with a short background lesson on the artist at 1:15, which is repeated again at 2:15, followed by ongoing, informal family dialogues in the exhibition gallery. Gallery explorations will focus on both the theme of the prints – the artist’s studio – as well as the media of printmaking. Students will have the opportunity to try their hand at printmaking in the Education Workshop. All activities are free with Museum admission, fully accessible and suitable for people of all ages and abilities. Reservations are suggested by calling the Museum 203-869-0376

June 4, 2011 – June 26, 2011

The Bruce Museum in Greenwich CT, will be presenting the second annual, “iCreate!”Teen Art Exhibition, from Saturday, June 4, 2011, through Sunday, June 26, 2011. The exhibition will be on view in the Bruce Museum’s Bantle Lecture Gallery and will feature approximately 30 prize-winning artworks by regional high school students. Organized by the Bruce Museum’s Youth@Bruce, the show will consist of a juried selection of two-dimensional pieces including paintings, drawings, mixed media, and hand-drawn or hand-painted digital works. Students must first register for the competition at www.youthbruce.com, and then will email three digital pieces to mlendenmann@brucemuseum.org. Youth@Bruce is working with the Bruce Museum’s Volunteer Program Manager Mary Ann Lendenmann, who will contact area high school art departments, distribute fliers, and update news on their “iCreate” Facebook group for those interested in participating. Last year over 160 entries were received from students throughout Fairfield and Westchester counties.

An independent three-member jury will be judging the work and will award cash prizes of $500, $250, and $100 for the top three entries. The original art of the top 30 winning entries will be mounted in the Museum’s Bantle Lecture Gallery. Digital images of all the artists’ entries will be shown in a slide-show, together with local high school students recorded music, presented on an iPad framed and mounted in the gallery.
