Greenwich Superintendent of Parks and Trees Bruce Spaman and Greenwich Historical Society Archivist Anne Young will explore the defining features and the history of the 55-acre treasure located in Cos Cob now known as Montgomery Pinetum. Originally called “Wild Acres” by earlier owners Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Gotthold, the property was purchased in 1922 by Colonel Robert Montgomery and his wife Nell, who tended it together for 30 years. It was donated to the Town upon Montgomery’s death in 1952. Learn how their home and garden became the site of a world-class conifer collection, a uniquely designed Lord & Burnham greenhouse and the Town’s beloved Garden Education Center.
