The Calf Island Conservancy, based in Greenwich, announces that its annual spring Spruce-Up of Calf Island will be held on Saturday May 15th. The Conservancy is working in partnership with the US Fish and Wildlife Service. All volunteers are welcome to assist in maintaining trails and picking up debris while enjoying the natural setting. Children accompanied by an adult are encouraged to participate. Coffee, juice and bagels will be served for all volunteers.
Volunteers and attendees will be picked up by boat at the Byram Shore Park public dock (entrance on Ritch Avenue in the Byram area of Greenwich) at 9 AM and will be returned at Noon. Bring work gloves, water and warm work clothing.
Lisette Henrey, President of Calf Island Conservancy said “Our annual Spring Spruce-Up day provides an opportunity for our members and others in the community to participate in the ongoing improvements we are making to the island and to raise our profile in Greenwich as a location for nature, wildlife and environmental education. Various youth and adult groups have conducted educational programs on the Island as well as maintaining and improving the Island. We are actively seeking other groups to run similar programs on the Island.”
To volunteer for the Spruce-Up it is important to contact David DeWahl of the Calf Island Conservancy in advance of the clean-up date at 203-561-0806 or daviddewahl@gmail.com.
