Creating Organic ‘Victory Gardens’ & Plant Nutrient Testing

Audubon Greenwich will host a joint presentation with Vonne Whittleton, an organic vegetable garden designer, and Jennifer Boyd, a Physician Assistant and wellness specialist. They will teach guests how to easily establish a ‘victory garden’ and discuss why organic vegetables tend to be richer in nutrients when compared to non-organic varieties. Vonne’s presentation will review the elements for a successful garden, how to install and maintain one, and also soil testing. Jennifer’s presentation will explain nutrient density testing via the Brix method and touch on several topics including sustainability planning, medicinal plants and Lyme disease prevention.  Both Vonne and Jennifer are accredited Organic Land Care Professionals with NOFA – The Northeast Organic Farmer’s Association. Vonne’s expertise comes from her roots in a family of farmers and her interest in the ‘local’ food movement. In 2008, she established Vonne’s Victory Gardens, LLC – a company that enables people to grow food locally by helping them design, install and maintain customized organic gardens. Jennifer is a licensed Physician Assistant and Reiki Master who owns a private wellness consulting practice in Westport, CT. She gained expertise in sustainable living while searching for evidence-based ways to enhance family health. Questions welcome during and after the program. RSVPs are appreciated. Contact Jeff at 203-869-5272 x239. $5 suggested donation per adult. Kids are free.
