A chemical-free home & work space is important to our health since that is where we spend a majority of our time. Creating one is easier and more affordable than it was five years ago so come learn about safe choices and how to avoid unsafe products for remodeling or new buildings. Come learn about the safest products from experts who use them daily. Each of the presenters posses a wealth of knowledge and experience working with greener products. Come out for an informative evening program where questions are encouraged.

Tom Nichols will discuss Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) management during the construction and occupancy of new buildings and homes. He will also outline IAQ testing results from various construction projects and discuss the design/construction practices that may have contributed to these results. Erin Buckley will discuss the many products she has researched in an effort to stock only the best of green building products in her green building supply store for homeowners and contractors. Andy Gilburg is a Construction Project Manager who has worked with several ‘green’ products through his experiences on LEED certified projects.

PRESENTER BIOS

Tom Nichols, CIE, LEED® AP (O+M) is a founding principal of 4 Elements Group located in Stamford, CT. He directs the indoor environmental quality division for both existing buildings and new construction, major renovation projects. He is a certified indoor environmentalist and LEED® accredited professional. Tom has consulted and performed several hundred IAQ investigations on commercial, residential, healthcare, manufacturing and educational buildings. Tom is also the primary LEED® consultant on various LEED® EB, CI and NC projects consulting as LEED champion or providing expertise in IAQ management, filtration, nontoxic materials, creating and recommending environmentally friendly furniture & furnishings. www.4elementsgroup.com/

Erin Buckley is co-owner of the Center for Green Building in the Black Rock area of Bridgeport – one of the area’s first environmentally-responsible building supply store. The store specializes in building products that help indoor air quality, improve energy efficiency and meet sustainable building practices. Along with her partner, Jonathan Tuminski, they have researched and tested each product so as to guarantee their safety and performance for the building industry. Andy Gilburg is a Senior Project Manager for Coastal Point Construction, Cos Cob, CT. Mr. Gilburg has been in the construction industry since 2002 and in the Fairfield County custom residential market since 2004. During that time he has been involved with numerous projects involving significant environmental considerations including the HOBI Green Home of the Year, 2009, where he served as Project Manager. Currently he is completing a deep energy renovation of a 1917 vintage home in Belle Haven, CT. Mr. Gilburg has a degree in Business Management from Franklin & Marshall College. http://coastalpt.com/

WATER: Ways to reduce use and harvest water

It may seem that the Northeast is water-rich, but it often experiences water shortages and droughts. Before the ‘well runs dry’ come learn about the many easy ways to reduce water use in our homes and how we can collect the rain, too. Topics will include efficient garden irrigation, rain barrels and storage, and also explore practical rain harvesting systems for our region. Teens are free. $10 suggested donation for adults. EARTH: All about ‘Green Roofs’
7:00-9:00 pm
The sun beats down on nearly everyone’s roof so why not cover it with vegetation that can absorb the heat and cut down on cooling costs in summer? This program will feature a panel of experts with experience installing live plant materials on roofs and show examples of green roof projects that would be suitable for existing and new homes and buildings in the region.
