“LAA DRAWS!” Black & White Drawings by Stamford’s Loft Artists! March 13 through April 26, 2009 Opening Reception: Friday, March 13 from 6pm to 9pm
In a stark reflection of the current trend towards paring down and trimming what is not essential, the LAA presents LAA Draws!, a show of black and white drawings. In this show, artists have stripped their work of all but a mark, making utensil and a surface upon which to render their image. No color intrudes on this tribute to the communicative power of marks on a surface. Each work in this show directly records the process of an artist confronting a blank surface. In painting, printmaking, sculpture and photography, the work goes through many stages that may be completely undetectable in the final piece.
