Villarina: Bringing Authur Avenue Fresh to Cos Cob

The Cos Cob section of Greenwich is full of twisty stone-lined roads weaving around some notable little delis and restaurants. Villarina is one of Cos Cob’s little treasures. It is located at 551 East Putnam Avenue at the corner of River Road and the ‘Post Road’ (aka – Putnam Avenue or Route 1).  If your mouth begins to water at the thought of nibbling on innovative sandwiches and panini made using freshly baked breads delivered each morning… from three of the best bakeries around Arthur Avenue in the Bronx…read on!

Upon entering Villarina’s you feel that you have been transported to a gourmet Italian shop at the Chelsea Market in NYC. A plethora of cheerful Italian treats, cheese wheels and coffees with brand names often only found in traditional NY Italian markets line the walls and shelves making the atmosphere quirky and fun. One of the first nice surprises we noticed are the cannoli…they are filled to order while you wait. The mozzerella is made fresh daily on the premises and when it finds its way into your sandwich it’s divine. Try a Panini. Our favorites are a ‘Villarina’ Panini made with fresh chicken, fresh mozzarella, imported prosciutto and Broccoli Rabe or the ‘Toscano’ with Bresaola, Brie Cheese, Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Mesclun Lettuce. There is always a hot table of freshly prepared home-style Italian fare that you can mix and match just the way you like. Your choices include at least 6 different unquestionably fresh veggies prepared simply using deliciously unique seasonings – definitely upscale carry-out. Villarina’s small refrigerated section houses some unique pasta’s and sauces to stash at home for a rainy day. This establishment is a find and is a reasonably priced choice whether you are looking for a quick bite, carry out, catering or delivery. It doesn’t hurt that they carry bindi gelatto and have a great espresso bar too. Buon appetito!
